Financial Accountant
Location: Hybrid / Eastleigh, Hampshire
Hours: 37.5 Hours a week (Monday – Friday 9am-5pm)
Salary: £36,000 - £42,000 (DOE)
Contract: FTC (12 Months – 14 Month Maternity Cover)
Are you a detail-oriented finance Accountant with a passion for accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement? Our client, a prominent player in the insurance sector, is seeking a dedicated and analytical individual to join their Finance team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting the monthly close process, preparing financial statements, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting across their UK entities. You'll contribute to core reporting requirements and support the team in delivering key strategic projects.

Main Responsibilities as Accountant:
* Supporting the control and delivery of the monthly close process for UK entities, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and associated balance sheet entries are valid.
* Timely and accurate reporting and reconciliation of the consolidated IFRS balance sheet to Group and senior management on a monthly basis.
* Preparation of first-level financial information for various stakeholders within the UK group.
* Meeting internal and external tax compliance requirements across all types of business taxes (excluding payroll taxes).
* Preparing the annual financial statements for the UK entities, including liaising with external auditors and ensuring appropriate internal reviews take place.
* Critically reviewing monthly close processes and documented procedures to identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, ensuring controls are updated as appropriate.
* Supporting the team with ad hoc queries, projects, and the development of knowledge and understanding within the team.
* Building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, including Actuarial, Underwriting, Payroll, and other parts of Finance.
Skills and Experience You Need as Accountant:
* Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA).
* An understanding of the technical aspects of accounting and its application.
* Good Excel skills.
* Experience using general ledger (e.g., Oracle’s E1) and reporting tools (e.g., IBM’s Cognos TM1) is desirable.
* Excellent attention to detail, with a core value set focused on delivering high-quality outputs.
* Excellent numerical skills and the ability to understand, evaluate, and interpret financial data, identifying and resolving apparent inconsistencies.
* Strong organisational and planning skills and the ability to prioritise and timetable workflows.
