Applications Engineer – EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
Location: Coventry-based with regular UK & European travel
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 basic + Company Car + Healthcare + Pension
A market leader in advanced manufacturing solutions is expanding its specialist EDM division and seeking an Applications Engineer to support the delivery of turnkey EDM systems to customers across the UK and Europe.
The Role
As an Applications Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in developing and delivering high-precision EDM solutions—supporting customers from project concept through to installation, commissioning, and acceptance. This is a varied role involving on-site technical support, process development, CNC programming, and customer training.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement EDM machining strategies
Generate and optimise CNC programs (Fanuc experience ideal)
Lead customer acceptance trials and achieve First Article Inspection (FAI)
Deliver on-site customer training and process troubleshooting
Collaborate with engineering teams across Europe to deliver high-precision EDM projects
Provide technical input during project reviews and system handovers
About You
Minimum 4 years’ experience in a precision machining environment—ideally EDM or CNC
Background as a Production Engineer or experienced CNC Setter/Operator
Strong understanding of NC programming; experience with Fanuc controls is preferred
Knowledge of EDM techniques such as wire or die-sinking is a distinct advantage
Familiarity with CAM software and simulation tools desirable
Proactive, well-organised and comfortable in a customer-facing role
