We are working in partnership with an outstanding Autism Specialist School seeking a dedicated and dynamic Assistant Headteacher to join their senior leadership team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a committed educator with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong background in SEND to make a meaningful impact in a nurturing, high-performing environment.
The school provides tailored education for children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), often with additional sensory processing needs, communication difficulties, and social-emotional challenges. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every learner receives individualised support in a calm, structured, and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Headteacher and SLT in delivering the strategic vision of the school
Lead on specific areas such as curriculum development, behaviour and wellbeing, or teaching and learning (based on your expertise)
Line manage and mentor staff, contributing to professional development and performance management
Drive high-quality, inclusive teaching practices across the school
Support with safeguarding, EHCP implementation, and compliance with SEND Code of Practice
Foster strong partnerships with families, external agencies, and the wider community
What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Essential
Proven experience in a leadership within an SEN or autism-specific setting
A strong understanding of ASC, sensory processing needs, communication differences, and strategies that support autistic learners
Confident in supporting and leading on behaviour, pastoral care, and/or curriculum development
Excellent communication, resilience, and a collaborative leadership style
