Construction Estimator – New Build, Refurbishment & Civils
Location: Gateshead (North East Based)
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000
Travis Talent is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established construction business based in Gateshead, who are looking to appoint an experienced Construction Estimator to support their continued growth across new build, refurbishment, and civil engineering projects.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Estimator to join a forward-thinking contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the North East.
The Role
You’ll play a key role in producing accurate and competitive cost estimates from initial concept through to final tender submission. Working closely with the Commercial and Operations Directors, you’ll help shape winning bids and ensure cost plans are robust, realistic, and strategically aligned to the company’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed cost estimates for new build, refurbishment, and civils projects.
*
Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to assess project requirements.
*
Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations.
*
Carry out site visits to understand project scope, challenges, and opportunities.
*
Support cost planning, budgeting, and value engineering activities.
*
Collaborate with project managers, quantity surveyors, and design teams.
*
Contribute to tender presentations and client meetings.
*
Maintain accurate cost data, benchmarking information, and pricing schedules.
About You
*
Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction sector.
*
Background covering new build, refurbishment, and civils projects.
*
Proficient in Causeway Estimating or similar software.
*
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and current regulations.
*
Excellent analytical, numerical, and communication skills.
*
Able to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
*
Qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Desirable
*
Membership of RICS, CIOB or a similar professional body.
*
Familiarity with NEC and JCT contract frameworks.
*
Experience using BIM or digital take-off tools.
