The Job Role:
Your role as the Dairy Herd and Genetics Manager will be focused on the day-to-day management of the herd, confidently supporting the Farm Manager and the team. Be responsible for milking and followers and helping to deliver high standards across the farm; adhering to H&S protocols and high animal welfare. To be responsible for taking DNA samples, recording and managing sets of data; to work with the management team and external customers on the genetics to improve the continued success of the herd.

Between £40,000 - £50,000 Basic Salary (depending on experience)
+ 3 bed Accommodation
Key Responsibilities:
The Dairy Herd and Genetics Manager will work alongside the Farm Manager for the day-to-day management of the farming operation.
Assisting with the herd, young stock, feeding, breeding and health decisions.
To liaise with the Farm Manager and Directors on genetics.
Be responsible for the timely collection of DNA samples.
Prepare DNA samples and relevant paperwork for shipment.
Maintaining effective communication and relations with genetic companies.
Manage data sets; process and analyse genomic data.
Assisting with the management of the farm team - including training and rotas.
Responsible for helping to cover when members of the farm team are away.
Responsible for running the farm in the absence of the Farm Manager.
To support on TMR feeding to ensure at the correct and agreed mix.
Adhering to the agreed farming policy communicating any issues promptly to the Farm Manager.
To ensure the upkeep of farm standards with regards to tidiness maintenance.
Maintain high levels of animal welfare and Health and Safety.
To support the farming operation to comply with all regulations and drive improvements in standards as required by the supply chain.
Data recording and record keeping.
Candidate Skills and Experience:
Proven experience of large-scale dairy herd/livestock management.
Ideally at least 5 years' experience in a commercial farm operation.
Experience of managing a team.
Capable of taking DNA samples.
Strong IT skills and ability to analyse data sets.
Sound herd record keeping.
Knowledge of TMR.
Experience of Health & Safety management and adherence.
Experience of herd management software; Uniform or Crystal.
Ability to be flexible and accountable with a strong desire to grow with the business.
Ability to embrace and develop new farming technologies.

Hold a valid UK driving licence
Able to provide excellent references on request
