Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Support Job Vacancy Role: Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Support Location: Solihull Salary: Grade 6, SCP 12-18 (£28,598 - £31,537 FTE) Actual Salary: £26,324 - £29,030 Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Term Time plus 2 weeks Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time Start Date: December 2025 / Jan 2026 Interview Date: Monday 1st December 2025 Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Support Specification We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) to join our pastoral team. The successful candidate will support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, while also providing targeted pastoral and behavioural support to help young people thrive academically and personally. This role is ideal for an experienced safeguarding or pastoral professional who is passionate about making a difference to children's lives and promoting a culture of care, inclusion, and safety across the school community. Key Responsibilities Safeguarding Leadership Support the DSL in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. Act as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns in the DSL's absence. Manage referrals to external agencies including Local Authority Children's Social Care, Channel, DBS, and the police. Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records (CPOMS/Bromcom) and ensure secure transfer of files for leavers. Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, case conferences, and inter-agency discussions. Support staff in identifying and referring safeguarding concerns, providing advice and guidance when required. Contribute to annual reviews of the safeguarding and child protection policies. Prevent and Safeguarding Training Lead on Prevent Duty responsibilities, maintaining the school's Prevent risk assessment and training records. Deliver or coordinate safeguarding and Prevent training for all staff. Liaise with local Prevent coordinators, police, and safeguarding partners as needed. Pastoral and Behavioural Support Provide 1:1 mentoring and support to students with social, emotional, or behavioural needs. Develop and implement pastoral plans to help students achieve personal and academic goals. Work closely with families and carers to ensure effective communication and support. Liaise with external agencies such as Social Services, Youth Offending Teams, and counselling services. Support supervision duties and the management of students temporarily removed from lessons. Maintain accurate pastoral records and contribute to regular reviews of student progress. Professional and Whole-School Responsibilities Promote the safeguarding, welfare, and equality of all students. Participate in professional development and staff training. Attend meetings, parent's evenings, and school events as required. Contribute positively to the ethos, aims, and inclusive culture of the academy. Requirements Experience in safeguarding, child protection, or pastoral roles within education. Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education and related statutory guidance. Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, parents, and agencies Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Safeguarding training (Level 2 or above) desirable; further training will be provided. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
