Electrical Design Engineer – Nuclear Sector

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team supporting major nuclear and energy infrastructure projects in the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design work, supporting system integration, and ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
*
Develop, review, and validate electrical designs, drawings, schematics, cable routing, and associated technical documentation.
*
Perform electrical calculations, load assessments, protection studies, and equipment sizing in accordance with nuclear engineering standards.
*
Ensure compliance with project specifications, technical requirements, and UK nuclear regulations.
*
Support the integration of electrical systems with mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and control disciplines.
*
Manage technical queries, design changes, and configuration control through established project processes.
*
Participate in design reviews, safety assessments, and risk studies (e.g., HAZOP/HAZID).
*
Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure the correct delivery of equipment and documentation.
*
Ensure all work is completed in line with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
*
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the refinement of design and verification processes.
Required Skills & Experience
*
BEng or MEng degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
*
Minimum 3 years’ experience in the nuclear sector (new build, operations, decommissioning, or safety-critical design).
*
Proven experience in electrical system design, documentation review, and 3D model verification.
*
Knowledge of LV/MV distribution, protection systems, earthing, control systems, and cable management.
*
Familiarity with nuclear standards, quality assurance processes, and engineering documentation requirements.
*
Strong communication, report writing, and problem-solving abilities.
*
Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable
*
Knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (IEC, BS, EN, RCC-E).
*
Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng (IET or equivalent).
*
Experience with configuration management and interface management in large-scale projects.
