Our Environmental Health Officers play a key role in our Regulatory function across two local authority districts. The team delivers vital services - investigating community and neighbour nuisance, environmental protection, environmental crime, and anti-social behaviour - working closely with partners to protect the public and ensure community safety.
We're looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our dedicated team. You'll lead thematic work in an assigned area, delivering professional assessments and outcomes that promote health, wellbeing, public protection, and high environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
Lead responses to community concerns, setting agendas to tackle nuisance, environmental crime, and anti-social behaviour.
Investigate complaints, protect the local environment, and resolve environmental protection issues.
Conduct assessments, develop problem-solving plans, and implement interventions.
Enforce regulations through statutory notices, equipment seizure, and provide evidence in legal proceedings.
Carry out measurements, surveys, and inquiries to gather data.
Liaise with duty-holders, contractors, and consultants to ensure compliance.
Provide expert advice to partners, including analysis of specialist reports, to achieve positive community outcomes.
Work proactively to improve public health and local environments.About You
You will be an inclusive communicator who inspires positive change, with a degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health. You will have extensive experience in local authority environmental and community protection, together with strong knowledge of legislation, proven ability to investigate complex complaints, and confidence in initiating regulatory legal action when required.
