This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing civil engineering contractor delivering a range of rail infrastructure projects across the UK, who are seeking two Estimators to join the team, with opportunities available in both Leeds and Sheffield.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can hit the ground running, taking ownership of estimates from receipt of drawings and scope through to submission. The projects are predominantly rail civils-focused and include earthworks, embankment stabilisation, drainage, piling, soil nailing, scour remediation, and associated infrastructure works.
This role would suit someone with practical estimating experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to play a key role in securing future project opportunities.
Key Responsibilities for Estimator:
·Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil engineering and rail infrastructure projects.
·Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
·Produce bills of quantities, schedules of rates, and supporting pricing documentation.
·Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and build robust cost plans.
·Assess project risks and opportunities during the tender process.
·Support feasibility assessments and tender submissions.
·Work closely with operational teams to ensure estimates reflect project delivery requirements.
·Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Requirements for Estimator:
·Previous experience working as an Estimator within rail, civil engineering, infrastructure, or related sectors.
·Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, embankments, bridges, structures, piling, soil nailing, or similar civil engineering disciplines.
·Ability to work independently and manage estimates with minimal supervision.
·Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
·Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
·A Degree, HND, or HNC in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline is desirable.
·Typically 2-5 years of relevant estimating experience, although candidates with strong practical knowledge will also be considered.
·Rail civils experience is highly desirable; candidates from highways, bridges, structures, or related civil engineering backgrounds will also be considered.
If you are looking for an opportunity where your practical estimating experience will be valued and where you can make an immediate impact on live tenders and framework opportunities, we would like to hear from you.
