Fabric Engineer

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm (OT available)
Contract Type: Permanent
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Fabric Engineer to join our team and provide essential support during the crossover between day and night shifts.
This role is key to ensuring continuity of service and the timely completion of fabric-related tasks across the site.
You will collaborate with an experienced team of four engineers, maintaining high standards of maintenance and repair throughout the facility.
Job Description
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Facilities Management (FM), excellent DIY skills, and experience in painting and decorating.
You should be comfortable handling a variety of ad hoc tasks, adhering to engineering standards and Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) requirements.
A proactive approach and willingness to support other engineering roles are key to success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond promptly and effectively to all building fabric-related issues and help desk requests.
* Inspect and repair floor, wall, and ceiling coverings, as well as doors, windows, and associated fixtures.
* Carry out painting, decorating, and other semi-skilled tasks as required.
* Inspect and repair free-standing and fitted furniture, and clear drainage gully systems.
* Replace door closure devices, hinges, and locks as part of planned and reactive maintenance.
* Conduct fabric surveys, report findings, and produce material cost lists for minor works.
* Coordinate visiting specialist sub-contractors for PPM schedules and accept completed works.
* Support the engineering team with general tasks and provide cover during periods of absence.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
* Strong all-round DIY skills with demonstrable experience.
* Background in Facilities Management and willingness to undertake varied tasks.
* Ideally qualified in painting and decorating (C&G, NVQ, or time-served).
* Any trade-based certification is advantageous; training such as IPAF and PASMA can be provided.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and flexible approach.
