Job Description

We are working with and recruiting for the UK’s leading expert in water mist fire protection based in Norfolk, due to their continued growth and development they are seeking to employ a Field Maintenance Engineer for the entire Midlands area. Very competitive salary offered Monday – Friday. Weekends are optional. After 6 months/ up to speed with system knowledge will go on an on-call rota for a week at a time, which we include some weekend. 10-hour days (start and finish times can vary though, so flexibility is a must!) Purpose of the role: To attend assigned visits to customer premises and perform all necessary system maintenance or fault diagnostics and repair. Ensuring system serviceability testing and paperwork is completed after assigned job is finished. Role Accountabilities: Maintenance Visit Planning. On receipt of assigned work schedule ensuring that all necessary equipment and service kits to conduct the assigned work is on works van and for liaising with the office for additional supplies where necessary. Customer Service. Maintaining a professional relationship with customers and their staff and for being accountable for own conduct as a representative of the company. Maintenance Work. Performing all maintenance and repair work thoroughly, in a safe manner, and in accordance with all laid down service instructions. Ensuring system items removed from customer premises are labelled as necessary to identify the part and issue and returned to company’s office. Uniform. As a representative of the company, maintaining a professional standard of dress, ensuring company’s branded clothing is worn at all times together with other appropriate PPE as necessary. Paperwork. Ensuring all paperwork, whether in hard copy or required to be completed via an issued tablet/iPad, in respect of each job is completed properly and is received by the Company’s office in a timely manner and in good condition. Call Out Duties. Report all callouts to the Office as soon as possible. During nominated call out periods ensure phone is kept on and is responded to in a timely fashion. On receipt of call out schedule keep nominated call out dates free of holiday and other commitments and notify the office immediately of any perceived conflicts. Service Vehicle. Maintaining allocated service vehicle in a good condition and for performing all daily and weekly checks, and for ensuring completed check sheets are received by the company’s office in a timely manner and in good condition. To drive responsibly at all times and in compliance with all legal road requirements. Notify the office immediately if for any reason you are unfit to drive. Equipment. Ensuring that all work equipment is maintained, including Ladder checks and tags, PAT testing, Calibrations, and associated pre-use checks. Purchasing. Ensuring that all purchases made in respect of the assigned company credit card is wholly necessary and for the sole use of work-related purchasing. Maintaining credit card sheets and receipts and any other paperwork which may be required by the finance dept. Training and Development. Complete all assigned training courses within timeframe allocated. You are responsible for ensuring that all CSCS cards, similar scheme or competency cards that you are required to hold are maintained. Communication. Maintain good communications with colleagues, responding in a timely manner to emails, text messages or phone calls and ensuring relevant information is passed on quickly. Workshop / Stores / Yard. Only using workshop equipment that individual is trained and authorised to use and ensuring that all correct PPE is worn when operating equipment. Ensuring that other staff are informed of any hazards while equipment is being operated and for performing pre-use equipment checks. Ensuring that work areas are left clean and tidy. Notifying stores person of all stock items that have been taken and for what purpose. Quality, Health, Safety, Welfare and the Environment (QHSE). Observe all company QHSE policies, procedures and other instructions and ensure all concerns observed or reported are submitted to the QHSE Compliance department. Notify the office without delay of any incidents, near misses or H&S concerns. Other duties as necessary and directed to meet the needs of the company. Business Impact: As part of a team: The role has direct impact on the following key measures: Customer satisfaction Meeting customer contractual requirements Maintenance income targets Legal Compliance Indirect impact on: Staff satisfaction (Colleagues both mobile and at head office) Brand Image Company certifications and accreditations People Management The role has no direct reports, however at times individuals may be asked to help familiarise and train new maintenance engineers. Knowledge, Skills and Experience (KSE) Water mist suppression systems – Good knowledge of water mist fire suppression systems and the wider fire prevention sector. Technical – Experience in similar field engineer roles. Demonstrates the technical competence and awareness required to pass manufacturer courses on the equipment to be maintained and repaired, or has relevant technical qualifications for work being performed. Electrical engineers should be qualified to at least Level 3 and ideally hold 17th Edition. Customer focus – Ability to communicate directly with customers and maintain good relationships. Information Technology – Proficient in the use of mobile technologies. E.g. Smart phones, Tablets. Construction Scheme (CSCS) Card – Have passed, or able to pass the CSCS Health & Safety Test. Holds a relevant CSCS or related scheme competency card. Communication/Relationships Customers – Responding to ad hoc requests for Information, Advice and Guidance. Colleagues – Maintaining good working relationships, ensuring colleagues are kept informed of all matters that may impact on ability to meet own duties, or for others to meet theirs. Working as part of the company’s Team. Negotiation for help as required. Supporting colleagues who may need assistance. Management – Providing and receiving information in relation to the job function. Provision of information as required. Presenting ideas to resolve emerging issues or for the continual improvement of the maintenance function. Decision Making Decisions can impact (positively or negatively) on the company finances and reputation, and on the morale and welfare of internal colleagues. Decisions can impact on the serviceable state of a fire suppression system and its operation in an emergency. Decisions can impact on legislative requirements, and on the Health, Safety or Welfare of self and others. Change Management Change management is within the context of management of self and own role. Problems that require resolving will be of varying difficulty, but most will have solutions which are readily available based on technical knowledge and experience, or can be resolved with assistance from colleagues. Occasionally management intervention will need to be gained in order to resolve an issue. Special Conditions and Other Requirements Driving Licence Able to work and stay away from home and, if necessary, to do so at short notice when needed. Able to attain all necessary security clearances required of the role
