Finance Director | £70,000 | 4 or 5 days/week | Manchester/Hybrid
About Us
We are pleased to be working with The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT), one of the UK’s fastest-growing food redistribution charities. Since 2016, they’ve grown to support over 100,000 people through 145+ community hubs across the North of England. With an annual income of ~£6m, their mission is simple: make life more affordable, build stronger communities, and reduce food waste.
As they scale nationally, we’re looking for a Finance Director to lead their financial strategy and ensure operational excellence.
The Role
Joining our Senior Leadership Team, you’ll take ownership of TBBT’s financial health — shaping strategy, strengthening controls, and ensuring compliance as we grow.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll oversee everything from budgeting and reporting to statutory accounts and grant finance, while supporting and developing our Finance Manager. You'll be a key partner to the CEO and Board, helping TBBT stay financially strong and future-fit.
This opportunity will be great for a Finance Manager looking to step into a Finance Director position and having more strategic input while still allowing them to be hands on.
What You’ll Do
Lead financial strategy, planning, forecasting and risk management
Produce clear, accurate monthly accounts, KPIs, and variance analysis
Ensure compliance with SORP, HMRC, and Charity Commission regulations
Manage audits, statutory accounts, and governance filings
Oversee payroll, pensions, and grant reporting
Act as Company Secretary
Support wider strategic decision-making as part of the SLT
What You’ll Bring
A recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
Senior finance experience, ideally in a charity or values-led organisation
Understanding of charity accounting (SORP) and restricted/unrestricted income
Experience with audits, grants, payroll, and governance
Excellent communication skills — able to explain financials clearly to all levels
Collaborative, adaptable, and values-driven
Salary and Benefits
Salary of up to £70k depending on experience
Manchester office with flexible working available
Chance to join a growing charity and progress career
