Job Description

MMP Consultancy is seeking an experienced Fire Safety Surveyor on behalf of a Local Authority in West London. This is a contract opportunity (initial term to be confirmed) offering a competitive day rate (inside IR35), operating under a hybrid working model with a mixture of office, home working, and on-site inspections across the borough. The rate of pay is £350pd inside of IR35. This role will focus on delivering specialist fire safety surveying services across the council's housing stock, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and internal policies. The successful candidate will play a key role in undertaking Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs), managing fire safety works, advising stakeholders, and driving improvements in fire safety compliance and resident safety. Responsibilities: * Undertake and produce Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) across housing stock and tenant areas * Identify fire safety risks and raise works orders to ensure remedial actions are completed * Develop and manage programmes of FRA inspections based on risk profiling * Carry out desktop reviews of fire risk assessments in line with policy requirements * Monitor and quality assure external contractors delivering FRA services * Inspect completed fire safety works to ensure high-quality standards and compliance * Specify and support delivery of fire safety improvement works and planned programmes * Conduct regular inspections of communal areas to ensure compliance (e.g. signage, obstructions) * Liaise with the London Fire Brigade, including joint inspections and responding to enforcement notices * Provide technical advice and training to internal teams and contractors on fire safety and compartmentation * Support development of fire safety strategies, policies, and asset management plans * Prepare technical reports and act as an expert witness where required * Engage with residents, including vulnerable tenants, providing fire safety advice and guidance * Respond to complaints and member enquiries within required timescales * Maintain accurate records and contribute to fire safety databases and compliance tracking * Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Requirements: * Proven experience in fire safety within housing, construction, or the built environment * Strong understanding of the Fire Safety Act 2021, Building Safety Act 2022, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 * Experience undertaking Fire Risk Assessments, ideally within social housing * Knowledge of health & safety legislation and its practical application * Experience managing contractors and overseeing fire safety works * Ability to produce clear, accurate reports and technical documentation * Strong communication skills with the ability to engage residents and stakeholders effectively * Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines * Experience delivering fire safety training (desirable) * HNC/HND or equivalent in Fire Safety, Fire Engineering, or a related discipline * NEBOSH General Certificate * NEBOSH Fire Safety (FC1/FC2) or equivalent * Advanced Fire Risk Assessment certification * Working towards or holding full membership with IFE, CIOB, CABE, or RICS (essential or in progress)
