HVAC Engineer - Life Sciences Contract 
 Darlington 
 £45,000 + Benefits 
 
 HVAC Engineer Opportunity - Life Sciences Environment 
 
 We are currently seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to join a high-profile Life Sciences contract in Darlington. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer looking to work in a highly regulated, technically advanced environment where reliability, compliance and performance are critical to operational success. 
 
 The successful candidate will join a dedicated engineering team responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a modern facility supporting cutting-edge scientific and research activities. 
 
 The Role 
 
 As an HVAC Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across the site. You will work closely with engineers, subcontractors and client stakeholders to maintain critical environmental conditions required for life sciences operations. 
 
 This role is ideal for a proactive and technically strong engineer with experience in commercial, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, data centres or other critical environments. 
 
 Key Responsibilities 
 - Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on HVAC systems and associated plant. 
 - Ensure optimal performance of air handling units, chillers, boilers, ventilation and cooling systems. 
 - Diagnose faults and complete effective repairs to HVAC and building services systems. 
 - Maintain accurate records and manage tasks via CAFM systems. 
 - Ensure all work is completed in line with statutory compliance and health & safety requirements. 
 - Support system optimisation to improve efficiency and reliability of plant. 
 - Supervise and coordinate specialist subcontractors when required. 
 - Complete risk assessments and method statements for all assigned tasks. 
 - Assist with quotations for minor works and remedial repairs. 
 - Support delivery of contract KPIs and service level agreements. 
 - Participate in audits, toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives. 
 - Build strong working relationships with client representatives and site stakeholders. 
 
 What We're Looking For 
 Essential 
 - Relevant qualification in HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 
 - Experience working within facilities management, commercial buildings, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, data centres or other critical environments. 
 - Strong understanding of HVAC systems including AHUs, chillers, boilers and ventilation systems. 
 - Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance. 
 - Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills. 
 - Good understanding of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance requirements. 
 - Excellent communication and customer service skills. 
 
 Desirable 
 - F-Gas Certification. 
 - IOSH Managing Safely qualification. 
 - Experience using CAFM systems. 
 - Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS). 
 - Experience working with complex HVAC controls and energy management systems.
