Mechanical Design Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration Systems

Location: Hornslet, Denmark (Hybrid / On-site)

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent – Open to contract

Overview

We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a skilled and growing engineering team working on large-scale industrial refrigeration and heat pump systems. This is a hands-on design role where you’ll be directly involved in developing, detailing, and finalising the mechanical design of turnkey refrigeration projects for a range of industrial applications. You’ll play a key role in ensuring every system meets technical, safety, and regulatory standards while achieving high performance and reliability.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of design tasks from concept through to detailed engineering and project execution. Working closely with other design disciplines, you’ll contribute to system layouts, component selection, calculations, and documentation for complex refrigeration installations.

Your engineering scope will include:

  * Thermodynamic and mechanical calculations (equipment sizing, valve sizing, pressure drop, etc.)

  * P&ID development and updates

  * 2D and 3D mechanical design of piping systems, equipment layouts, and skid assemblies

  * Preparation of technical specifications, BOMs, and material lists

  * Support for quality assurance, compliance documentation, and IOMs

  * Collaboration with controls and electrical engineers on system integration

Key Responsibilities

  * Produce accurate mechanical designs and documentation for industrial refrigeration projects.

  * Develop and maintain P&IDs, equipment drawings, and piping layouts.

  * Perform calculations and component selections to ensure design integrity.

  * Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to deliver designs on time and within scope.

  * Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and customer requirements.

  * Provide technical input during project reviews and site support where needed.

  * Contribute to the continuous improvement and standardisation of design tools and methods.

About You

  * Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.

  * Experience in industrial refrigeration, process plant, piping design, or thermal/mechanical systems.

  * Strong working knowledge of CAD tools (2D and 3D).

  * Understanding of thermodynamics, pressure equipment, and industrial piping systems.

  * Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  * Able to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

  * Fluent in English.

  * Danish language skills preferable and an advantage
