A large and well-established manufacturing business is seeking a Shift Mechanical Engineer to join their Wigan site. The role offers the opportunity to work within a modern, process-driven engineering environment where you will take responsibility for maintaining, repairing, and improving a range of mechanical plant and equipment.
This position suits someone who is proactive, mechanically skilled, and able to work efficiently across a variety of production systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain, install, and repair all mechanical plant and equipment in line with company standards.
* Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
* Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a variety of production machinery.
* Conduct daily safety inspections and maintain all equipment in a clean and safe condition.
* Complete maintenance work orders and use of a CMMS system (e.g., Agility).
* Work autonomously while communicating effectively with other departments.
* Promote Lean practices and continuous improvement in engineering processes.
* Always adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in a mechanical discipline.
* Proven maintenance experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
* Strong knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
* Welding skills (MMA, MIG, TIG) and general fabrication ability.
* Familiarity with machine tools, lathes, milling, or fitting work.
* Diagnostic and problem-solving capability.
* Confident reading and interpreting mechanical drawings.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office and maintenance software systems.
