Mixed Vet role in East Gippsland – Challenge, Variety, and a Lifestyle You’ll Love. $115k - $135k per annum
This isn’t your average rural vet clinic and they’re not looking for your average vet. They are a thriving, privately-owned mixed animal practice based in Bairnsdale, East Gippsland. Rivers, lakes, bushland, mountains, cattle stations and coastline all surround them, and its a job that lets you enjoy every bit of it.
This role is for a vet with at least four years’ experience in large animal work. An empathic vet that really cares about what they do. You’ll split your time between their small animal clinic and the great outdoors.
Consulting, operating and managing hospital cases, then heading out into the hills and paddocks for cattle pregnancy testing, bull checks, equine visits, calvings and emergencies. Their large animal work takes you into the Victorian High Country, a place where the views are as satisfying as the vet work.
Shifts are straightforward. A four-and-a-half-day week with 1 weekend in every 6 .You’ll work 9 to 5 or 10 to 6 for full days, and 9 to 1 on half-days. There’s no sole charge during regular hours, and even after-hours, you’ve got backup, another vet and a nurse are always available.
Their clinic is home to 13 vets and a total team of 35 and growing fast. Their staff range in age from 19 to 71, and many have been with them for over 20 years, a real sign of a happy workplace. Being such a great place to work this is reflected in their ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reviews on Google, over 300 of them!
To perform at your best, there has to be a bit of down time, a social and wellness committee will take care of that. They organise everything from winery tours to beach days, plus birthday cakes, ‘Fun Scrub Fridays’, lunch-and-learn sessions and regular team catch-ups.
So, what’s in it for you?
An hour rate between $60 and $80 depending on experience, plus 11% super. OOH is generously compensated: You keep 100% of the call-out fee, 50% of the consultation fee, and a percentage of any additional services. How many practices can boast that?
Add to that four weeks of annual leave and one weeks of study leave, and you’ve got real work-life balance. They also provide a clinic car for OOH and farm trips, and cover your AVA membership, CPD, and radiation licence.
East Gippsland offers a lifestyle you won’t find in the city. Think rivers, rail trails, lakes, sports clubs, beaches and snowfields, all within easy reach. If you’re looking for a practice with purpose, people you’ll genuinely enjoy working with, and a community that makes you want to stay, we’d love to hear from you.
This is more than just a vet job, it’s a place to grow your skills, build real connections, and genuinely enjoy coming to work. Whether you're actively looking or just quietly curious about a change, we’d love to have a conversation.
Send your CV, don’t worry if it’s not up to date. We can’t get the whole story in a job ad so ask any questions. I’ll answer honestly, no hard sell.
