GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join specialist and mainstream schools across Chesterfield. This full-time role is perfect for someone passionate about building strong relationships and positively influencing young learners’ behaviour and emotional well-being.
Role Overview:
As a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to pupils with SEMH needs who may exhibit challenging behaviour, anxiety, low self-esteem, or difficulties engaging with learning. Your responsibilities will include delivering one-to-one or small group support, encouraging emotional regulation, and helping children access education within a safe and structured environment.
Responsibilities as a SEMH Teaching Assistant:
Provide personalised support to pupils with SEMH needs in primary school settings.
Promote emotional development, social skills, and positive behaviour management.
Implement strategies and interventions to enhance well-being and learning engagement.
Collaborate with SENCOs, class teachers, and external professionals.
Be flexible and willing to travel between sites as needed.
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs is preferable.
A steady, composed, and patient attitude when handling challenging situations.
Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
Full UK driving license with business insurance (essential).
An up-to-date CV covering the last 10 years (with no unexplained gaps).
Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
