Principal Control Systems Engineer Hampshire, UK (hybrid) £70–80k + benefits (flexible)
This new opening involves developing control systems for ship based sustainable marine technologies. The company requires an experienced engineer that can work effectively and autonomously in a start-up environment. Exciting prospects for growth and development lay ahead.
Key skills:
* Control systems architecture (requirements, technical specifications to implementation)
* Control systems design (PLC, control logic, electrical schematics, comms protocols, etc)
* Able to develop automated PLC control systems from scratch
* Able to travel occasionally to support trials, installation and commissioning
* Technical leadership and mentoring of junior engineers
About the Role: Control Systems Engineer
This is an exciting opportunity to support the development of sustainable technologies within a growing and forward-thinking start-up.
The company requires an experienced control systems engineer that can work effectively and autonomously in a start-up environment. You will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering PLC based control systems, with responsibility for the full controls lifecycle: from architecture and systems design through to onboard commissioning and trials. Hands on PLC programming and control systems design is needed.
You will be expected to take initiative, solve problems independently and be able to work from a blank sheet of paper, capturing requirements, proposing and delivering the complete solution.
Skills / Knowledge required: Control Systems Engineer
* Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant field (e.g. electrical engineering, mechatronics, etc)
* Strong experience with the design and programming of PLC-based control systems and automation systems (From scratch)
* Knowledge of networking and communication protocols (e.g. CANbus, Modbus, IP, NMEA, etc)
* Solid understanding of control system architecture (able to capture requirements, develop systems specifications, implement design solution, etc)
* Design and develop electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
* Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and tackle unfamiliar problems
* Willingness to travel occasionally for product trials, installation, commissioning
Others (beneficial): Not essential
* Experience with AI/ML techniques for enhancing control systems
* Knowledge of marine regulations and standards
* Use of Model-based design using Matlab/Simulink tools
* Able to design and develop HMI / UI using high level software (e.g. C#, C++)
