Principal Electrical Engineer - Building Services (MEP Consultancy) Salary: Around £60,000 (DOE) Location: Birmingham (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days home) A leading multi-office MEP design consultancy is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their growing Birmingham team. This is a key technical delivery role within a well-established consultancy known for high-quality design work, strong client relationships and a supportive culture. The Opportunity You'll join an established building services team of five, stepping in as the senior electrical lead on a variety of new-build projects. This position has been created to strengthen the technical delivery capability of the group, provide mentorship to junior engineers and support the transition of the local director into a more business-focused role. This is not a business-development-driven role-however you will be client facing and trusted to represent the business professionally. Role Highlights Act as Electrical Lead on projects from concept to RIBA Stage 4a Mentor and support the development of a graduate engineer (without formal line management duties) Play a key role in technical delivery across multiple sectors Collaborate closely with Mechanical and Sustainability teams Hybrid working: 3 days in office / 2 days from home Flexible 35-hour working week (early start/early finish options) What They're Looking For Strong background in Electrical Building Services design within a consultancy environment Ability to lead projects, coordinate with wider teams and communicate confidently with clients Experience mentoring more junior engineers A collaborative mindset and a willingness to contribute to a positive team culture Projects & Sectors The consultancy is busy across a wide variety of sectors, with particular strength in: Residential Healthcare Higher Education Most work is new-build design, delivered to RIBA Stage 4a, with minimal survey work. The team also contributes to major local developments, including significant masterplan schemes and long-standing frameworks with major clients.
