Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary) Location: Gateshead Salary: £84 - £110 per day (Depending on experience) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term Do you have the resilience, empathy, and determination to support young people facing emotional and behavioural challenges? A forward-thinking secondary school in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team and work with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role where your presence and support can make a significant impact on a student’s education, well-being, and future. Role Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with SEMH needs. Assist in managing challenging behaviour with a calm, proactive approach. Help pupils access learning by adapting resources and strategies. Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams. Build strong relationships with students based on trust and consistency. Maintain accurate records and contribute to support plans and reviews. Job Requirements: Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or within an SEN setting. A calm, patient, and supportive attitude with strong emotional intelligence. Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). Why Choose GSL Education?
