Smile Education are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Wednesbury (WS10). This is a full-time, long-term role supporting a pupil within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) who has complex communication and interaction needs.
About the Role As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the child’s learning, communication, and personal development. You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement tailored support strategies that help the pupil thrive in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs
Assist in delivering learning activities in line with the EYFS framework
Support pre-verbal communication and encourage engagement through structured routines
Use a range of communication techniques, including visual aids and gestures
Contribute to the child’s social and emotional development
Work collaboratively with school staff and external professionalsAbout You We’re looking for someone who has:
Experience working as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant with SEND pupils
Experience supporting children in the EYFS
Understanding of complex communication and interaction needs
Experience supporting pre-verbal pupils
Knowledge of Makaton (desirable but not essential)
