Senior Scientist - Assay Development

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Scientist to join an innovative healthcare technology company developing next generation molecular diagnostic solutions.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary Product Development team, you will play a key role in the development and optimisation of novel diagnostic assays for a proprietary point-of-care testing platform. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of technical projects, contribute to cutting-edge product development and help bring impactful healthcare technologies to market.
The Role
As a Senior Scientist, you will lead a focused technical project aimed at developing and optimising thermal cycling and detection parameters for a multiplex PCR assay. You will be responsible for designing experiments, analysing complex data, drawing meaningful conclusions and driving projects forward independently.
You will work closely with scientists and engineers in a collaborative environment while also mentoring junior members of the team and helping to maintain high scientific standards across the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
Design and execute experimental plans to achieve project objectives
Lead assay development and optimisation activities
Generate high-quality experimental data and technical reports
Analyse results using appropriate statistical methods
Present findings and recommendations to support development decisions
Manage technical projects with minimal supervision
Ensure laboratory activities are conducted efficiently and professionally
Support and mentor junior scientists
Contribute to a collaborative and innovative scientific culture
About You
We are looking for an experienced scientist with strong molecular biology expertise and a proven track record in assay development.
You will ideally possess:
Degree, MSc or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences or a related discipline
Strong hands-on molecular biology laboratory experience
Experience developing and optimising qPCR or multiplex PCR assays
Proven ability to independently manage scientific projects
Strong experimental design and data analysis skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
A logical and methodical approach to problem solving
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
The ability to thrive within a collaborative, fast-paced development environment
Desirable Experience
Industrial experience within molecular diagnostics or IVD development
Experience working with NAAT technologies
Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and regulatory frameworks
Experience supporting products through regulated development processes
