Job Title: Support worker
Location: Eastergate, West Sussex.

Contract Type: Permanent

Service: Registered Residential Children’s Home, regulated by OFSTED.
*
Focus: Accommodates children (aged 10-17) who have experienced neglect, trauma, and related behavioural or mental health issues. The service runs 52 weeks per year.
*
Responsible To: Senior Support Workers and the Management Team.
*
Job Purpose: To be a positive role model, providing emotional and practical support during the night to help children achieve well-being, safety, and prepare for future independence.
*
Training: All mandatory training will be provided, including safeguarding and health and safety.
* Disclosure: Enhanced DBS check required.
Safeguarding is the highest priority. The role requires a calm, therapeutic approach.
*
Night-Time Supervision: Ensure the home remains a safe and calm environment. Conduct regular checks on children in line with risk assessments and care plans, maintaining accurate records.
*
Responsive Care: Provide immediate emotional reassurance and practical support to children who wake during the night. Support children with complex needs and manage challenging behaviour therapeutically.
*
Routine Management: Administer or oversee nighttime routines (e.g., medication, hygiene) following established protocols and training.
*
Environment Preparation: Ensure the home is clean, tidy, and well-prepared for the day shift, including light cleaning duties, laundry, and preparation of breakfast items.
*
Communication: Maintain clear, detailed, and timely records of observations and incidents. Collaborate effectively with the day team through comprehensive handovers.
Candidate Profile and Requirements

Qualifications and Education:
*
Educated to GCSE Level or above, including Maths and English.
*
Diploma Level 3 in Looking after Children and Young People or a commitment to work towards it.
*
Experience:
*
Previous experience working with children who have experienced negative childhoods or trauma.
*
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain confidentiality.
*
Effective record-keeping and IT skills.
*
Awareness of using Physical Intervention techniques (in line with training) to ensure safety.
*
Knowledge:
*
Awareness of key legislation including Safeguarding, Children's Homes Regulations 2015, and Quality Standards.
*
Awareness of child protection, substance misuse, and child exploitation.
*
Skills:
*
Full clean driving licence (manual and automatic).
*
Ability to cook simple home meals.
*
Strong oral and written communication skills.
*
Confident to mentor, advocate for children, and actively listen.
*
