SEND Teaching Assistant – Nurturing Potential Beyond the Mainstream

Are you passionate about making a difference for children who haven’t thrived in mainstream education?

We’re looking for empathetic, committed SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Derby who have experienced trauma, sensory processing differences, or social and emotional challenges. These children deserve patient, consistent adults who can help them feel safe, understood, and ready to learn.

About the Role:

  * Long-term, term-time only positions to provide stability and continuity for the young people

  * Support children in specialist settings or alternative provisions

  * Build trusting relationships and offer emotional regulation support

  * Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs

  * Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to create a nurturing environment

  * Be part of a friendly, supportive team that values collaboration and wellbeing

You’ll need:

  * Experience supporting children with SEND, SEMH, or trauma-informed approaches (school-based or otherwise)

  * A calm, compassionate approach and strong communication skills

  * Flexibility and a genuine desire to help children re-engage with learning

  * Teamwork and a willingness to learn from others
