ASD Teaching Assistant (TA) – Secondary

Salary: £84 - £110 per day (depending on experience)

A welcoming secondary school is seeking a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant in Sunderland to join their team and support students with additional needs in both academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with ASD, helping them access the curriculum and stay engaged in learning.
Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and classroom strategies to meet individual needs.
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through calm, consistent support.
Foster independence, communication, and confidence in students with varying abilities.
Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and parents to monitor and support student progress.
Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience working with children or young people with Autism (in education, care, or similar).
Strong communication, patience, and behaviour management skills.
A calm and supportive approach, with a genuine interest in SEN education.
An understanding of ASD and strategies for supporting sensory, emotional, and social needs.
A relevant qualification in education or support is desirable.
A valid, enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
