Job Description
Building Surveyor - Hybrid - Up to £55k
Location: Colchester - Hybrid working, with some site travel
Prime Appointments are working with a growing consultancy that's looking to add a Building Surveyor to its team. They work closely with housing providers and property owners to carry out detailed inspections, safety reports, and structural assessments, particularly around new building safety regulations.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be out on site conducting inspections, identifying defects and working closely with Fire Engineers and Building Safety Consultants to pull together Building Safety Case reports and fire strategies. It also involves supporting junior team members on-site and helping to keep projects moving smoothly.
What the role involves:
Carrying out property surveys and inspections
Spotting and diagnosing structural issues (e.g., cracks, water ingress, etc.)
Writing up reports including condition surveys and risk assessments
Supporting safety case work and fire strategy development
Advising clients on maintenance and compliance
Working with and mentoring junior colleagues
Keeping up to date with legislation and industry standardsWhat they're looking for:
Background in surveying or structural engineering
Confident identifying and explaining building defects
Experience with risk assessments and safety-related reporting
Understanding of structural modelling and load path analysis
HNC, degree, or similar in a relevant field
Building Safety Case experience is a bonus, but not essentialThis is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of site work and technical reporting and who wants to be involved in meaningful, safety-led projects. Flexible working is on offer, with strong support for development.
