Pay Rate: £75 per hour Umbrella LTD (Day Rate – Inside IR35) / £60 PAYE

About the Role: A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and professionally registered Specialist Building Inspector (Class 3) to join the Planning & Building Control team at a leading North London local authority.
You will be responsible for delivering high-level Building Control services for a diverse and complex portfolio of developments, including high-risk, in-scope buildings under the Building Safety Act 2022. This is a hands-on, hybrid role involving site inspections, technical assessments, enforcement, and contribution to multi-disciplinary safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess complex plans and undertake inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations 2010, Building Act 1984, and Building Safety Act 2022.
Lead on enforcement activities, including dangerous structures and unauthorised works.
Participate in multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) alongside the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).
Respond to site incidents, assess safety concerns, and initiate emergency works when required.
Mentor and support junior inspectors and trainees as part of a structured development plan.
Deliver high levels of customer service and professional technical guidance to contractors, clients, and members of the public.
Maintain professional and legislative awareness and contribute to ISO 9001 accreditation.
Support the Deputy Head and Head of Building Control in strategic objectives and service delivery.Requirements:
Class 3 Registration under the Building Inspector Competence Framework (BICoF)
Chartered membership with RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent
Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering
Strong technical expertise in high-risk and complex residential developments
In-depth knowledge of the Building Regulations, Dangerous Structures legislation, and London Building Acts
Proven enforcement experience and the ability to act as an expert witness
Excellent report writing, plan checking, and site inspection capabilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle
