Job Description
Are you a newly qualified Criminal Solicitor looking to kick-start your career in criminal defence? Or a CILEX-qualified advocate with rights of audience in the Magistrates’ Court ready to make your mark? If you're driven, resilient, and passionate about criminal justice, we want to hear from you.
Our client is a respected, forward-thinking law firm with a dedicated criminal defence team. They represent clients across a full spectrum of criminal matters, from minor offences to serious and complex cases. They are proud Legal Aid providers and committed to access to justice for all.
We are looking for an ambitious and committed lawyer to join the busy criminal department. You will manage your own caseload, represent clients in the Magistrates’ Court, and provide high-quality advice throughout the criminal process.
Key Responsibilities:
* Handling all aspects of work from police station attendances, Magistrates Court advocacy and Crown Court litigation Provide police station advice (24/7 rota participation may be required)
* Handling a caseload of work within the Magistrates Court
* Providing advice and advocacy within the Magistrates Court
* Acting as Litigator on Crown Court cases
* Prepare cases for trial and liaise with barristers and other professionals
* Maintain case files and comply with Legal Aid and regulatory requirements
* Servicing Duty Solicitor Rotas
Requirements:
* Recently qualified Solicitor (NQ+) or CILEX-qualified with Magistrates’ Court advocacy rights
* A strong understanding of criminal law and procedure
* Excellent communication and advocacy skills
* A proactive approach and ability to work independently
* Police Station Accreditation (or willingness to obtain)
* Full driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred
