Job Description

We seek an experienced and compassionate Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in leading a nurturing and structured environment for children and young people. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to ensure the highest quality of care and compliance with all regulatory standards. As Deputy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the home, staff supervision, and maintaining an environment where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve their potential. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people, with a proven track record in residential childcare and leadership. Key Responsibilities * Support the Registered Manager in running the home effectively, ensuring it operates in accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards. * Lead and supervise staff to deliver safe, person-centred care and promote positive outcomes for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). * Act as a positive role model, encouraging a culture of respect, professionalism, and continuous improvement. * Provide reflective supervision and mentoring to staff, supporting professional development and high performance. * To ensure safe staffing levels, take an active role in recruitment, staff rotas, holiday planning, and resource management. * Manage the home in the Registered Manager's absence, including participating in the on-call rota and handling emergencies. * Monitor and review care plans, risk assessments, and placement objectives in collaboration with professionals, families, and the young people. * Foster strong partnerships with external agencies, local authorities, and families to support integrated care planning. * Contribute to inspections, audits, and Regulation 44/45 reporting processes, ensuring the home meets and exceeds expectations. * Uphold high standards of health and safety, cleanliness, and infection control throughout the home. * Encourage and support children’s involvement in community life, education, and recreational activities. * Promote children’s rights, voice, and participation per the home's Statement of Purpose. Essential Requirements * Minimum 2 years' experience working in a children’s residential setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role. * Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent. * Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Children Act 1989, and safeguarding protocols. * Proven ability to lead and motivate staff teams and manage challenging situations effectively. * Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and care planning. * Willingness to undertake the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (if not already held). * Ability to participate in a 24-hour rota, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, and on-call cover
