Job Description

DESIGN ENGINEER Location: Wakefield Type of role: Permanent Salary: £40,000-£50,000/annum (depends on experience) JOB PURPOSE Our client is a hydraulic system and component supplier to the UK steelwork industry and machine tool manufacturers. The role of Design Engineer will involve design and build of hydraulic projects, working with client specifications from the design stage through manufacture, installation and presentation of technical documentation. Taking a conceptual customer specification and developing it into a working hydraulic schematic, specifying and selecting products to create bills of materials. Liaising with sales and production team to produce high quality hydraulic power units and associated hydraulic equipment. Our client operates across a number of industry sectors, e.g. Flood Defence, Energy & Renewables, Oil &Gas, Machine Tool, Food Processing, Steel Production. Key Responsibilities Design of bespoke hydraulic systems and equipment, typically comprising; HPUs, actuators, accumulators and manifolds. Understanding of the fundamentals of hydraulics; pumps, valves, actuators and their application  Use of Engineering Principal such as Mechanical & Structural constraints, Geometric Tolerance and Material Selection Understanding of Project Management Knowledge of Electrohydraulic / Electromechanical Systems and how to implement Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications and compliance with design standards and legislation. Designing from customer specifications using 2D & 3D design Production of detailed hydraulic schematic drawings, general arrangement drawings and detailed manufacturing/fabrication drawings. Generate accurate 3D models in SolidWorks for issue to customers, suppliers and workshop. Component selection, BOM production and procurement of proprietary equipment and fabrications. Verification of component selection/design through calculation – hand calcs, FEA, Excel calculators etc. Technical documentation writing – O&M Manuals, FAT procedures, RAMS             Assist Sales with concepting and costing of hydraulic systems and components. Technical point of contact for Sales and Production. Visting Customers  Document management/control. Issuing instructions and ensuring that all work is carried out correctly. To prepare and present reports / data as required. To continually liaise with all customers and staff (departments), ensuring good communication is apparent at all times Comply with company health safety policies and procedures and, as applicable, ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment and fully utilise all safety items within the legal and H&S requirements. Knowledge and Skills Experience in Hydraulic engineering/design Previous experience working in the Hydraulics Industry Experience with Design Software (SolidWorks) Customer facing experience IT literate (Microsoft Packages) Worked within ISO Standards (9001/45001) Methodical Systematic Personable Can communicate well and work as a member of the team and also in own initiative Reliable and good attendance record Able to make decisions and take responsibility. Technical knowledge and skills Business Degree or equivalent Eng.
