Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Commercial Electrician to work across RAF Lakenheath, RAF Feltwell, and RAF Mildenhall, supporting the electrical maintenance and minor works projects for commercial properties and single-occupancy dormitories. The role requires a strong background in commercial electrical systems (not domestic), providing a mix of reactive maintenance, new small works, inspections, and testing.
This position offers a work van (option for private use) and a fully scheduled workflow managed via PDA. Ideal candidates will be independent, self-motivated, and able to work confidently alone while maintaining excellent customer communication.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Perform routine and emergency electrical maintenance across commercial properties and dormitory buildings.
*
React to call-outs, carrying out minor new works and installations, such as adding plug sockets, emergency lighting maintenance, and distribution board checks.
*
Conduct scheduled testing, including Fixed Wire Tests (EICR) and emergency lighting inspections.
*
Complete tasks independently, traveling between sites with a company-provided van.
*
Use a PDA system to manage and receive daily job scheduling and reporting.
*
Maintain a high standard of work with minimal supervision while adhering to safety and quality standards.
*
Provide excellent customer-facing communication and service when liaising with site staff or residents.
*
Participate in a 1-in-5 week on-call rota, with additional standby and call-out payments.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required:
*
City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent recognized qualifications).
*
18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
*
Experience conducting Fixed Wire Testing (EICR) — must have at least domestic testing experience.
*
Strong background in commercial electrical work (essential) — dormitories and commercial properties, not residential homes.
*
Full UK Driving License.
*
Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
*
Good communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable in customer-facing roles.
Desirable:
*
Experience in a similar role on military bases or in a high-security environment.
*
Additional certifications in Inspection and Testing (e.g., City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent).
*
Familiarity with PDA-based work systems.
Benefits:
*
Competitive salary of £32,000 – £39,000 depending on experience.
*
Company work van, with option to tax for private use.
*
Paid standby and call-out bonuses during on-call weeks.
*
Regular Monday to Friday daytime hours with limited weekend work.
*
Opportunities for training, development, and advancement in a stable, supportive environment.
