Job Description

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in determining the cost of switchgear projects, ensuring competitive pricing and profitability while maintaining the high standards our customers expect. Working under the directive of the Sales Director you will work closely with sales to prepare detailed and accurate estimates for both large and small-scale projects. This role offers the opportunity to leverage your expertise in switchgear and electrical systems, providing leadership and technical support to junior estimators.   Primary Responsibilities • Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for switchgear projects, including materials, labour, and other associated costs. • Tender Management: Review project specifications and drawings to provide accurate and competitive bids. Identify key project risks and opportunities. • Collaboration: Work closely with sales and engineering, ensuring the smooth handover of won projects. • Project Scope Analysis: Evaluate project requirements, scope of work, and technical details to ensure that all estimates are comprehensive and aligned with customer expectations. • Cost Control: Monitor project budgets during the tender phase and ensure that all estimates are kept within defined limits. • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all estimates, tenders, and communications. Provide detailed reports to senior management and stakeholders on project performance and costing accuracy. • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior estimators, reviewing their work and offering mentorship in the development of their estimating skills. • Market Analysis: Keep up to date with market trends, competitor pricing, and new technologies to ensure our estimates remain competitive and current. • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate risks associated with pricing and project delivery, proposing solutions to mitigate these risks.   Key Requirements • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in estimating, with a strong focus on electrical systems. • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of switchgear products, electrical installations, and related technologies. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations. Skills:  Excellent analytical and numerical skills. o Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate estimates. o Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.). o Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. o Strong negotiation and communication skills. o Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor junior team members. • Certifications: Any certifications related to estimating, project management, or electrical engineering would be advantageous. • Right to work in the UK Desirable (but not essential) • Prior experience in an SME environment   What We Offer • Competitive salary and benefits package including private healthcare and health cash plan policy • 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays • Company pension scheme • Sponsorship towards professional development and training opportunities • A collaborative and supportive work culture The NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
