Job Summary:
We are seeking a Field Electrical Engineer with experience in High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) systems to join a leading engineering company in the energy infrastructure sector. This is a field-based role requiring frequent travel across Germany to support commissioning, testing, and diagnostics of HV and EHV cable systems, including both AC and DC transmission technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform commissioning and maintenance testing of HV and EHV AC/DC cable systems, including insulation resistance, VLF testing, and partial discharge testing
Conduct field testing and diagnostic analysis on cable systems according to IEC, IEEE, and DIN standards
Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and testing protocols
Prepare accurate technical reports and documentation on test results, faults, and performance evaluations
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to resolve technical issues
Provide support during fault detection and failure analysis of underground transmission systems
Maintain all health, safety, and environmental compliance standards on site
Interface directly with clients, site managers, subcontractors, and equipment vendors
Support the development of new testing techniques and assist in field innovation initiatives
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline
Minimum 2–5 years of experience in HV/EHV systems, cable testing, or power transmission equipment
Proven knowledge of AC and DC cable systems and associated components such as terminations, joints, and transformers
Hands-on experience with testing tools such as:
Very Low Frequency (VLF) testers
Tan Delta / Dissipation Factor testers
Partial Discharge (PD) detectors
TDR / Fault location equipment
Valid German driver’s license (Klasse B) and willingness to travel extensively within Germany
Fluency in German (C1-C2 level) is required for client and site communications
Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Familiarity with SAP, AutoCAD, or SCADA systems is a plus
Good understanding of IEC 60287, IEC 60840, IEC 62067, or equivalent standards is advantageous
Preferred Experience:
Previous work with utilities, grid operators, or cable manufacturers (e.g., Siemens, Nexans, NKT, Prysmian, ABB, TenneT)
Experience in the energy, power, or electrical infrastructure sectors
Experience with site-based work in construction or commissioning environments
Experience managing third-party contractors and safety procedures
