Job Description

Involve Recruitment are looking to appoint an Electrical Surveyor/Design Engineer to design and survey solar projects to meet the criteria of our clients funding partner. The ideal candidate will design, survey, evaluate, and optimise solar system designs to ensure that they meet the required yield and specifications of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) provision while ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. This role will require the successful candidate to split their time between conducting surveys on various sites and providing designs from our office in Cardiff. Key Responsibilities: * Design and develop electrical systems for Solar PV installations, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, and equipment layouts. * Conduct regular site visits to ensure that the design and cable runs are compatible with the outlined design and recommend necessary changes to maintain compliance. * Calculate electrical loads, wiring sizing, voltage drops, and inverter selection to ensure an optimised design solution. * Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical analysis for solar projects. * Ensure all designs comply with electrical industry standards and health and safety requirements. * Collaborate with project managers, structural engineers, and installation teams to ensure system performance. * Stay up-to-date on new products and technologies, working with various manufacturers to specify electrical components, inverters, switchboards, and protective equipment. * Assist with the permitting process, including DNO applications and local authority planning requirements. * Perform technical evaluations and recommend design improvements through equipment selection. * Support the commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. * Contribute to the preparation of proposals, presentations, and materials for internal and external meetings, conferences, and industry events. * Assist in coordinating and monitoring project and team tasks to ensure deliverables are met. Experience & Qualifications: * Level 5 or higher technical qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. * 2-3 years of renewable energy project experience with a strong engineering background in Solar, Battery Storage, EV, or Electrical Installations. * Familiarity with electrical codes and standards, such as NEC, IEC, etc. * Excellent knowledge of electrical theory, application, and technologies for electrical generation. * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data, evaluate project economics, assess risk factors, and deliver yield analysis. * Strong communication and presentation skills. * Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PV Syst, PV Sol, and Solar Edge. * Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD (advantageous, not essential). * Experience with ELEK Design software (advantageous, not essential).
