Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Family Support Worker to work with a Staffordshire-based Local Authority on a temporary basis. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri) based in Stoke on Trent.
The incoming Family Support Worker will be supporting families through holistic whole family assessment and one-to-one direct work with children and young people to assess risk and coordinate support to meet identified needs within the family.
Main Duties:
* To support families with complex needs in line with relevant frameworks, coordinating early help assessments, plans and reviews, and taking the lead role in engaging appropriate partners to support the plan and achieve agreed outcomes that create sustainable change for children and families
* Ensure families contribute to a robust Early Help assessment that is holistic, values family culture, builds on existing strengths, and identifies needs
* Work in a restorative, relational way with families and children, recognising and celebrating small steps towards family goals, but also providing challenge where necessary
* Apply practice informed learning combined with relevant theory from a number of sources to support parents in understanding their child’s learning and developmental stages, and the importance of skills development in positive behaviour management strategies
* Ensure that risk is well managed, and all safeguarding processes are followed working closely with, and accessing relevant support, including social workers, health professionals and partner services to ensure that children and families receive the right support at the right time
* Provide outreach support where appropriate to ensure families get the help they need within the relevant framework, collaborating with other professionals that are supporting families at different stages in their change journey
* Support parents to improve parenting capacity and increase parental confidence and well-being, supporting parents to access evidence based programmes to increase their coping mechanisms in their parenting role, and to understand appropriate responses and management of their children’s behaviour
* Maintain factual, accurate and timely records of all interactions with families in line with the practice standards
Essential Criteria:
* Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Children’s Care, learning and development or Health and Social care equivalent
* In depth knowledge and understanding of the requirements of relevant frameworks and initiatives including Restorative Practice, the Supporting Families Programme and Working Together to Safeguard Children
* Prior experience of working with vulnerable children and families in a multi-agency environment
* Appropriate experience relating to child development and methods of engaging children and young people, parenting styles, and the needs of vulnerable or disadvantaged children and young people
* Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people including children of all ages
