Job Description
At AEPartners UK, we connect top talent with leading engineering and manufacturing businesses. Our client, based in Washington, is a specialist in the design and manufacture of bespoke low voltage (LV) switchgear, along with distribution boards, panel boards, transformers, and containerised substations tailored to customer requirements.
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Financial Controller to join their leadership team. This is a hands-on role, reporting directly to the Director, and responsible for overseeing all financial operations and leading a small finance team.
The Role
You will lead a team of three and be responsible for producing timely, accurate financial reports, implementing smarter financial processes, and supporting the strategic direction of the business. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to financial leadership.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce monthly management information (MI) reports for the Finance Director.
* Improve internal reporting and drive system/process enhancements.
* Collaborate with department heads on financial planning, project budgeting, and variance analysis.
* Ensure accurate application and contract accounting.
* Manage AP, AR, and cash flow forecasting.
* Oversee budget setting and stock/WIP valuation.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns, review payroll, and handle year-end HMRC reporting.
* Coordinate annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
* Hold monthly finance team reviews, track KPIs, and manage annual stock counts.
* Lead smarter working initiatives alongside Finance and IT teams.
What We're Looking For
Essential
* ACCA / CIMA / ACA qualified.
* Strong financial reporting and analytical skills.
* Excellent Excel and accounting software knowledge.
* Effective leadership and communication abilities.
* Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
* Degree or AAT qualification.
* ERP system experience.
* Background in construction or manufacturing.
* Experience with construction VAT and HMRC schemes.
* Project financial management experience.
