JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Generator Mechanic
Reports to: Site Lead
Location: Erbil, Iraq
Leave: 12 weeks on, 3 weeks off
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Essential:
* Recognised and accredited trade qualifications at City & Guilds standards or higher
* Exceptional fault-finding and diagnostic skills for both mechanical and electrical components on prime power and standby generators
* ·Supervisory experience with strong communication skills
* Proven ability to apply good environmental practices in tasks performed, including investigating accidents and incidents, conducting risk assessments and risk control, and complying with UK health and safety legislation
Desirable:
* Experience working in challenging remote locations or developing countries
* Completed familiarisation courses and product training on Caterpillar prime mover units, FG Wilson Generators and Perkins prime mover units and Woodward control gear, electronic engine controls
* Proficiency in load bank testing
* Familiar with engine diagnostic tools, such as Perkins electronic service tool and CAT electronic technician
* Electrical qualification demonstrating competence and knowledge of IEE regulations at the 18th Edition
* Possess or have previously held a MOD Authorised Persons certificate in disciplines such as Mechanical and Petroleum
Core Responsibilities and Duties
* Perform generator maintenance and servicing within contracted timeframes
* Evaluate and complete tasks with motivation and competence
* Manage generation and mechanical works
* Ensure and promote high standards of mechanical hygiene to prevent contamination of prime mover units.
* Carry out planned and reactive repairs on contracted generators and associated fuel systems
* Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and implement safe systems of work
* Arrange for generator repairs to be undertaken and satisfactorily completed within contracted timescales
* Initiate and order materials via the Stores Request Service
* Conduct ad-hoc and weekly toolbox talks
* Deliver pre-shift briefs and specific task instructions as required
Salary Info: Upto £74,000 salary inclusive of an overseas 75% uplift bonus which includes 20 hours overtime and locations allowances, subject to UK tax for whole duration of the assignment.
We also offer a very generous bonus payment (per month), paid out at the end of each year (or pro-rated if left early/changing work location). Which is a payment acknowledging the Kinetic working environment of Iraq at the moment. – However, this payment could be removed in the future should the client deem it necessary due to changes in the area. If so, anything accrued to that date will be paid out pro-rated.
Security Clearance Requirements - Valid SC clearance preferred – must be a UK National but doesn’t have to be British born (to obtain an SC, candidate must have 5-year footprint living and working in the UK, unless they have been overseas with the British military). However, there may be a requirement for the applicant to obtain a DV clearance (10-year footprint). We will consider that people only have a 5-year footprint, as there may be a workaround on site.
Working day - 6 days a week from circa 8 through to 5.30 but these timings will be flexible, depending on the construction schedule on the day. As mentioned above, we pay a flat rate, equivalent to 60 hrs per week.
Rotation & Leave:– 12 weeks on/3 weeks off.
We offer Authorised Persons Tickets. These are voluntary and organised at project demand. However, we offer a payment of £1,000 per ticket per annum, up to maximum of a £2,000 payment, paid in December or pro-rated if leaving early.
Insurances – You will be covered by a life insurance policy for the duration of your engagement with our client
Welfare/Camp facilities - Gym, coffee shop and WiFi.
Accommodation – Portacabin/container type shared accommodation – please note all meals, PPE, flights are paid for by the client.
