The Role: Head of History
As Head of History, you will lead a well-established and high-performing department, fostering academic excellence and innovation in teaching and learning. You will shape a dynamic curriculum that challenges students at all levels and prepares them for success at GCSE, A-Level, and university.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership and vision for the History Department, aligning with whole-school priorities.

Oversee the design, delivery, and review of an ambitious and engaging History curriculum across Key Stages 3–5.

Inspire, mentor, and support colleagues within the department to maintain high standards of teaching and assessment.
*
Foster a culture of academic curiosity, debate, and historical scholarship in and beyond the classroom.
*
Lead departmental initiatives such as enrichment programmes, educational visits, and guest lectures.
*
Collaborate with senior leadership on whole-school initiatives, including academic tracking and curriculum development.
The Ideal Candidate Will:

Hold a degree in History or a related subject and a recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).

Have a proven track record of excellent teaching at GCSE and A-Level, with experience of departmental leadership or a clear readiness for this step.
*
Demonstrate outstanding subject knowledge, communication skills, and a collaborative approach to leadership.

Be passionate about nurturing historical inquiry and independent thought in students.
*
Show a strong commitment to professional development and the broader life of the school.
