Head of Private Client – Solicitor
Location: St Albans (Hybrid)
Salary: £80,000 – £100,000 (DOE)
An established and highly respected law firm in Hertfordshire is seeking a Head of Private Client to lead and grow a newly formed Private Client department. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced solicitor to shape and develop a key area within a firm that combines a long-standing local presence with the support and infrastructure of a wider national network.
With a strong commitment to expanding its Private Client services, the firm offers the ideal platform for a STEP-qualified solicitor who thrives on building teams, delivering exceptional client care, and driving strategic growth.
The Opportunity:As Head of Private Client, you will play a central role in establishing and leading a new team. You’ll have autonomy to shape the department, manage your own caseload, and contribute to the firm’s long-term vision. This leadership role comes with genuine scope for progression and influence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and grow the Private Client team, offering mentorship and direction
Manage a full range of Private Client matters, including Wills, Trusts, Probate, LPAs, and Court of Protection
Deliver high-quality service from instruction to completion
Support and supervise junior team members and legal support staff
Develop client relationships and expand the department’s profile
Take an active role in the future strategy and success of the departmentWhat We’re Looking For:The ideal Head of Private Client will bring:
STEP qualification (or working towards it)
At least 10 years’ PQE in Private Client law
Experience handling complex matters across Wills, Probate, and Estate Administration
Strong leadership qualities and a passion for team-building
The ability to work independently while collaborating across departments
Excellent communication and client-care skillsWhat’s On Offer:
