Title: Lead Design Engineer (C&I)
Location: Greater Manchester (Hybrid)
Salary: £85,000 + car allowance + package
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Design Engineer (C&I) to join a leading main contractor, working on a diverse portfolio of technically complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
This is a client-facing, leadership role where you'll take responsibility for technical oversight, project delivery, and team management within the Control & Instrumentation (C&I) discipline. You'll work across the full project lifecycle - from initial concept and proposals through to detailed design, procurement, and commissioning - ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and commercially sound solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and expertise across C&I projects and proposals, including the preparation, review, and approval of engineering documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Plan, manage, and coordinate discipline resources, assigning work packages and overseeing delivery in line with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Mentor, guide, and support the development of junior and graduate engineers, fostering technical growth and career progression within the C&I team.
Ensure the on-time delivery of high-quality C&I design deliverables, maintaining strong client relationships and upholding technical integrity throughout project execution.
Prepare and manage equipment and material requisitions for a range of C&I systems, including control systems, safety systems, analyser houses, field instrumentation, and related components.
Develop comprehensive installation scopes of work, and review supplier quotations, technical submissions, and proposals for compliance and suitability.
Lead the preparation of technical bid evaluations and actively support procurement processes and decision-making.
Candidate
Proven experience as a Lead Design Engineer or Senior C&I Engineer within the UK construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
Strong technical background in Control & Instrumentation systems, including control systems, safety systems, and field instrumentation.
Excellent leadership, organisational, and team management skills.
Experience of working in a client-facing capacity, with strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Comprehensive understanding of relevant national and international engineering codes and legislation.
Familiarity with Functional Safety and/or Cyber Security considerations is an advantage.Offer
Up to circa £85,000 per annum
