Job Description

Locum Band 6 Children's Community Occupational Therapist Location: Leyland, PR26 Contract: Locum - Full-time, Mon-Fri 08:30-16:30 Hourly Rate: £26+ per hour Start Date: ASAP Duration: 3-6 months (with potential extension) We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a Children's Community Therapy Team on a locum basis. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, child-centred occupational therapy services in homes, clinics, schools, and early years settings. This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with developmental, physical, and/or sensory needs. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive assessments of children with a range of needs including developmental delays, physical disabilities, and sensory integration difficulties Develop and deliver individualised treatment plans in collaboration with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams Provide recommendations and training for adaptive equipment, access, and environmental modifications Support children's participation in daily living, play, and school activities Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with service protocols Participate in service development initiatives and attend regular MDT meetings Client group (age group and diagnosis) Children with motor coordination difficulties (diagnosis of DCD, ASD, ADHD, co-morbidities)- generally 5- teenage years Potentially children with rheumatology issues affecting hand function- generally 5-teenage years Potentially children with behaviour that challenges- with a focus on adapting the environment to make it safe - generally 3 / 4 years ply Potentially children with neurological and genetic conditions - equipment assessment and reviews Specific Assessments Used Range of departmental paperwork and standardised assessment including: Initial assessment forms Risk assessment paperwork BOT DASH VMI Clinical observations Oxford 24/7 postural management- presenting postures and critical measures Triage conversations with family re: appropriateness and timeliness for our involvement (departmental proforma for this) Telephone consultations with parents to capture current situation, strengths, areas of concern, priorities and goals- signposting to universal and targeted resources as appropriate (departmental proforma and resources for this). Based at Leyland House - covering Chorley and South Ribble area, including clinic based, school, home visits etc. Requirements HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist Minimum of 12 months' paediatric experience in a community, educational, or clinical setting Solid understanding of child development and therapeutic interventions Strong communication and case management skills Car driver with access to a vehicle (community visits required) Enhanced DBS clearance (mandatory)
