Job Title: Maths Lead Tutor
Location: HMYOI Werrington, Stoke-on-Trent
Salary: From £34,000 per annum
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Role Overview:
We’re currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate Maths Lead Tutor to lead the delivery and development of Functional Skills Maths across a secure site-based provision in HMYOI Werrington. This is a leadership role for a dedicated tutor who thrives on learner progression and can motivate a team to deliver consistently high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
You’ll be responsible for overseeing teaching staff, developing curriculum, delivering high-quality provision, and supporting continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be confident teaching, supporting others, and ensuring learners are supported to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, develop, and manage a team of Functional Skills tutors.
* Deliver outstanding Maths teaching sessions, leading by example.
* Support with curriculum design, development, and implementation in line with Ofsted and MoJ standards.
* Ensure effective use of resources and teaching tools to enhance learning experiences.
* Monitor and manage performance of teaching staff to drive achievement and retention outcomes.
* Assist the Education Manager with quality assurance, SAR, QIP and curriculum planning.
* Ensure compliance with contractual KPIs and meet performance indicators for learner success.
* Work in partnership with internal teams, external agencies, and awarding bodies.
* Ensure all teaching and learning materials are inclusive, accessible, and differentiated.
* Uphold safeguarding, equality, health & safety, and GDPR policies at all times.
* Lead a problem-solving, improvement-focused approach to learner engagement and satisfaction.
* Contribute to positive learner behaviour management and class allocation processes.
* Maintain learner and staff records to the highest standards.
* Ensure full compliance with all HM Prison Service security regulations.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
Essential:
* Full Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS).
* Subject specialism in Maths (minimum Level 3).
* Experience of leading or managing a team of tutors.
* Strong knowledge of curriculum planning and delivery.
* Understanding of Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
* Experience in teaching Functional Skills Maths in a secure or FE setting.
* Ability to plan for and implement continuous improvements in teaching and learning.
* Commitment to safeguarding, equal opportunities, and reducing re-offending through education.
* Excellent communication, organisational and staff management skills.
Desirable:
* Experience of curriculum development and change management.
* Experience supporting learners with complex barriers to learning.
* Knowledge of quality systems, audit processes, and mentoring staff.
* Confidence in using diverse teaching methods and digital tools.
* Previous experience working within a secure or challenging environment.
