Job Description

TITLE: MECHANICAL FINISHING OPERATIVE DEPARTMENT: FINISHING RESPONSIBLE TO: MECHANICAL FINISHING SHIFT SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBLE FOR: OPERATION OF MECHANICAL FINISHING EQUIPMENT Main Function: To carry out all aspects of mechanical finishing operations to ensure that production output continually meets specified quality standards and agreed levels, within the required timescales. Key Performance Tasks: Work in accordance with company quality procedures at all times to ensure compliance with working practices and standards. Ability to operate dedicated machinery in the most effective manner. Provide detailed reports on discrepancies between estimated and actual machine times. Ensure all maintenance is carried out to agreed standards and on schedule, for your allocated machinery. Ensure the finishing area and your allocated machinery is kept clean and tidy by carrying out daily inspections at the start and end of each shift. Ensure all documentation is completed accurately to ensure that a true record of work produced is available at all times. Work with the Finishing Shift Supervisor to improve efficiencies wherever possible and report all issues that affect production and efficiency. Work additional hours when required by the company to cover absenteeism and busy periods. Perform other duties as reasonably correspond to the general requirements of the post and are appropriate to its level of responsibility in order to contribute to the success of the Company. Employees must ensure that all necessary safety devices and protective equipment are used and comply with the operation of the Health & Safety Policy. Ensure compliance with the Quality and Security Policies and Procedures Performance Indicators / Targets: Strive to meet the estimated make-ready and run times for each job. Consistent attainment of agreed production targets within given timescales. Ensure all products meet specified requirements and quality standards. Accurate and legible recording of production related documentation. Ability to quickly identify operating problems and act in to minimise down time Receptive to cross training on other types of equipment as directed by the Supervisors. Demonstrate flexibility by moving between departments. Perform housekeeping to required standards. Strive to improve efficiencies wherever possible. Skills: In depth knowledge of the production process and machine operating methods. Sound working knowledge of engineering technology and finishing machinery maintenance Ability to understand written instructions and translate them into correct machine settings. Flexible and adaptable approach to rapidly changing work priorities. Helpful and co-operative attitude. General Tasks: Identify potential departmental problems and offer appropriate suggestions for improvements in process and/or procedures. Participate in meetings as required. Liaise with internal departments, as appropriate, in a timely and professional manner. Maintain standards of work, and systems and procedures as appropriate. Perform all tasks in accordance with quality procedures to achieve customer satisfaction and smooth work flow. Comply with health and safety procedures to ensure own and others’ wellbeing. Promote lifelong learning for continuing effectiveness by maintaining awareness of own learning and development requirements and actively seek to have these fulfilled. Perform other duties as reasonably correspond to the general requirements of the post and are appropriate with its level of responsibility in order to contribute to the achievement of business. Behave at all times with the utmost professionalism. KEY SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Ability to understand written Works Instructions with reference to key tasks.
