Responsible for: Working as a team with other allocated TSU staff, teachers or group leaders on journeys.
1. Purpose
1. To drive up to 16 seat passenger carrying vehicles and other Council vehicles on scheduled and non-scheduled services for all aspects of activity undertaken by Council buses, minibuses, goods vehicles and cars as directed, for the transport of passengers and/or commodities in a safe and efficient manner. 2. To act as a passenger assistant when instructed by an appropriate Line Manager.
3. To accept individual responsibility for delivering the service standards as set out in the service’s ‘Staff Handbook for Passenger Drivers’ as amended from time to time and any other guidance or instruction provided.
2. Core job description / Main duties and responsibilities
2.1 To safely and efficiently drive any allocated vehicle in accordance with a journey schedule or other verbal or written instruction, showing respect for other road users, passengers, and the general public at all times.
2.2 To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, when instructed by a manager, which are within the capabilities of the postholder and commensurate with the grade of the post.
2.3 To access the day’s work schedules without direct supervision, if necessary, check for any updates and changes and ensure the vehicle is equipped to undertake the required journey.
2.4 To be responsible for the well being of passengers and users whilst in the care of the Service. To report as soon as possible to an appropriate manager any concerns about the well-being of passengers and users.
2.5 To be punctual at collections and arrive punctually at destinations. To report any delay to managers to ensure passengers and users are aware of any delay.
Experience
* Experience of driving minibuses, and accessible buses with at least 16 seats, within an inner city area.
* Experience of dealing with people in a caring, sympathetic and responsible manner.
* Experience of working with adults or children who need assistance with mobility, personal care and behavioural issues.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of care to be provided to individuals with special needs.
* Knowledge and use of a language other than English.
* Knowledge of the geography of the Borough, the Londonand South East area.
