Role Overview
Southwark Council is seeking a Principal Enforcement Officer to manage increased workload within their Environmental Services team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience carrying out inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System known as HHSRS. This role involves writing schedules of work and serving notices under the Housing Act 2004, preparing prosecution bundles, and appearing as a witness in court or at First Tier Tribunal hearings. The role also includes serving Community Protection Notices and requires strong conflict management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out thorough inspections of houses in line with HHSRS guidelines.
Write detailed schedules of work and serve enforcement notices under the Housing Act 2004.
Prepare prosecution bundles and represent the council as a witness in court or tribunal proceedings.
Serve Community Protection Notices effectively.
Manage conflict situations professionally and calmly.
Essential Skills and Experience
Extensive experience in inspecting houses using the HHSRS framework.
Proven experience in serving enforcement notices and taking high level enforcement action including prosecutions and Community Protection Notices.
Experience in preparing legal documentation and court appearances.
Strong conflict management and communication skills.
Additional Information
Hybrid working includes three days in the office at Queens Road 1 Southwark SE15 2TJ.
