Our Client is an award-winning family-owned British organic grower, miller and food producer based in Berkshire, who are also the UK’s number one organic flour brand dedicated to crafting only the best from sustainably grown ingredients. We are now supporting them in trying to recruit an experienced Procurement Manager who has previously worked in the FMCG industry sector, better still although not essentially who has some understanding of milling. Reporting to their Head of Logistics & Supply Chain, you will act as a lead member of their procurement team managing the procurement processes with suppliers to improve quality, reliability and traceability, to reduce product cost whilst ensuring continuity of supply of all components. You will take responsibility for the contracting and purchasing of all ingredients and packaging for the company and the management of contracts with own brand suppliers. Detailed duties and responsibilities will be: Manage the relationships with external suppliers with a focus on purchasing raw materials, packaging and consumables. Ensure the availability of assigned items, including raw materials and packaging flow to ensure continuity of production and to support the company’s customer service, cost and inventory turn objectives. Establish raw material suitability based on a brief; review and approve selection of suppliers, including assessment of supplier capability, technical capability and supplier development. Manage the assessment of supplier risk. Ensure stringent material control, accuracy and verification in recording stock. Liaison with Production/Sales/Marketing/Technical to evaluate new and existing materials, keeping abreast of current and future market trends. Develop the procurement processes and supplier relationships across all areas of the business. Conduct supplier negotiations to achieve optimum benefits for the company. Liaise with local farmers and grain merchants, nationally and internationally regarding grain contracts, organic certification and other quality matters. Organise with farmers/grain merchants for contracts for future harvests, organising testing, approval and contract post-harvest. Arrange import licences where necessary. Organise the deliveries from origin of ingredients via various modes of transport. Member of TACCP team, reporting internally on potential changes to supply based on availability, price, harvest yield etc. Internal auditing as part of the site team. Manage 1 direct report - a junior buyer.You will have the following qualifications & experience: Should ideally be educated with a Degree or equivalent, better still be CIPS qualified, although plenty of relevant experience will be considered. You will be experienced working in Procurement / Purchasing within the FMCG industry sector. You should have a knowledge of contracting commodities or grain. You will need strong supplier relationship and contract management skills as well as good negotiation and influencing skills. You will be skilled in using MS Excel.It’s great if you also have the following: Auditing and basic food hygiene training. Experience in Milling. Experience working with MRP systems.This position is available with immediate effect.
