Job Description
Job Summary
We are looking for a confident and hands on Quantity Surveyor to join a well established subcontractor working on commercial projects across schools and prisons and civil engineering projects. This is a project-level QS role where you’ll take full ownership of your work, managing multiple jobs independently and playing a key role in controlling costs and ensuring financial success from start to finish. Ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, responsibility, and progression opportunities.
Duties
* Control costs and ensure commercial success in line with budgets and contract agreements.
* Prepare accurate valuations, forecasts, and financial reports throughout the project lifecycle.
* Work with NEC and JCT contracts confidently and independently.
* Collaborate with site teams and commercial managers to monitor progress and control risk.
* Handle subcontractor payments, variations, and final accounts.
* Use software tools such as Bluebeam and Microsoft Office to manage project data and documentation.
* Support procurement processes and ensure compliance with all contract requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
* Must have experience working for a subcontractor – we are not considering main contractor backgrounds.
* Ideally from an apprenticeship background, with strong site-based experience.
* 3–5 years’ experience post-apprenticeship in a similar QS role.
* Experience working on groundworks, utilities, or commercial builds (especially schools and prisons) is beneficial.
* Solid understanding of cost control, contract administration, and project reporting.
* Proficient with NEC and JCT forms of contract.
* Competent using Bluebeam, Excel, and other key project tools.
* Confident, proactive, and punctual — able to work independently on multiple live jobs.
