Role: SEN (PMLD) Teacher

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher with expertise in working with students with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). This role is based at a supportive and well-resourced SEN school in Aylesbury. You will play a vital role in delivering highly individualised teaching and care, ensuring all students are supported to reach their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualised learning plans (IEPs) tailored specifically for students with PMLD, focusing on sensory engagement, communication, and life skills.
Deliver multi-sensory lessons using a range of visual, auditory, and tactile strategies suited to each student’s abilities and EHCP targets.
Use specialist communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, Eye Gaze, AAC) to support students with limited or non-verbal communication.
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, OTs, and support staff.
Monitor and assess student progress using P Levels, Engagement Model, or other appropriate assessment frameworks.
Provide a safe, predictable, and emotionally secure environment, supporting students with complex medical and care needs where applicable.
Liaise with parents/carers regularly, building trusting partnerships to support learning beyond the classroom.
Uphold high standards of safeguarding, personal care, and behaviour management, always maintaining dignity and respect for the individual.
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialism or experience in SEN, preferably PMLD.
Proven experience teaching learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
Strong knowledge of specialist strategies and resources relevant to PMLD education.
Confidence in supporting students with complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical needs.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
A nurturing, patient, and creative approach to teaching.
