Role Overview:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Work closely with class teachers to support children with a wide range of needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and speech and language challenges.
Help create a calm, safe, and supportive classroom environment.
Deliver tailored 1:1 or small group interventions and provide behaviour and emotional support.
Support students in developing confidence, independence, and positive social skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide targeted 1:1 or group support to students with SEN and SEMH.
Help implement learning and behavioural strategies tailored to individual needs.
Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour reinforcement.
Contribute to monitoring student progress and updating SEND records and reports.
Build supportive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and well-being.
Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCO, and external specialists.
Key Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEND, especially SEMH, autism, ADHD, or learning difficulties.
Relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare or learning support (preferred but not essential).
Understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
Confidence in supporting speech, language, and social development.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Familiarity with a range of SEND conditions.
Experience working with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Awareness of current SEND legislation and best practice.
Experience with communication support tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS).
Knowledge of assistive technologies and SEN learning resources.
